Adapted Physical Education Minor

Adapted physical education programs strive to ensure that each student actively participates in physical education programs at his or her own level and that the student is integrated into the regular education program whenever possible. Other goals might include assisting students to develop self-esteem, further socialization skills, and promote sportsmanship.

The primary goal of adapted physical education should be to ensure that the child is provided with physical education services that meet his/her unique needs.

The Adapted Physical Education (APE) teacher is an educationally trained professional who is able to assess individual students and develop, adapt and implement specialized physical education programs in the motor domain.

Students in physical education teacher education or teachers already licensed to teach at an appropriate level in Wisconsin are eligible to complete the adapted physical education concentration.

Graduates are eligible to apply for a Wisconsin Adapted Physical Education license at the Prekindergarten through Grade 12 (Early Childhood through Adolescence) level.
