Dr. Julie Stamm is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She received her Ph.D. in Anatomy and Neurobiology from the Boston University School of Medicine and conducted research at the Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy Center and Psychiatry Neuroimaging Laboratory at Harvard Medical School – Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She received an F31 Ruth L. Kircschstein National Research Service Award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke to support her graduate research. Her research interests include the later-life consequences of incurring repetitive head impacts in sport, particularly during critical periods of childhood brain development, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and concussion management, knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors. Dr. Stamm is the author of the book, The Brain on Youth Sports: The Science, the Myths, and the Future, aimed at guiding parents, guardians, coaches, medical providers, and others towards making you sports as safe as possible for the developing brain.
