Adapted Fitness and Personal Training

Adapted Fitness Adult Participants

The Adapted Fitness and Personal Training classes offered through the Department of Kinesiology serve a diverse participant population. The classes are designed to accommodate participants with permanent as well as temporary disabilities. Classes are also designed to accommodate participants who are interested in personal training opportunities, stress management, weight management, and establishing a healthier lifestyle. In addition to health and fitness, some participants work on improving activities of daily living. For those who need it, one-on-one assistance can be provided for transfers to and from exercise equipment.

Typically there are multiple sections available each semester to participate in Adapted Fitness.

Individuals interested in taking the class must speak with Dr. Kecia Doyle, the Interim Director of the Adapted Fitness Program for the Department of Kinesiology.  Please submit the form on this page with your initial inquiry.  After that, you can review the steps for application and enrollment.

NOTE: Participation requires status as a special, guest or degree earning student. Guest students are allowed to participate at a greatly reduced fee and those students who receive disability benefits might be eligible to have tuition fees waived entirely. If interested, you may contact Dr. Kecia Doyle.

No Limits Kids Fitness Participants

Each Summer there is a No Limits Kids Fitness program. This is an eight-week program with the goal of empowering children with disabilities to be engaged in physical activity. Classes are designed to accommodate participants who are interested in working on personal fitness and fun summer activities in a safe and friendly environment.

Parents of participants are welcome to stay during class periods to engage in leisure time and activities for their own well-being.

Individuals interested in taking the class must speak with Dr. Kecia Doyle, the Interim Director of the Adapted Fitness Program for the Department of Kinesiology.  Please submit the form on this page with your initial inquiry.

Volunteers

Volunteers are very important to the success of the Adapted Physical Activity classes. It is only through the many volunteers, field experience students, and interns that we are able to serve the growing number of clients that participate each semester. The high number of volunteers also enables each class to better serve a very diverse population of clients. Volunteering in the Adapted Fitness and Personal Training classes is also strongly encouraged for individuals who are looking to fulfill service learning requirements and gain graduate school and employment experience. Each semester there are multiple sections in which volunteers can participate.
