Certification & Licensure

Graduates of the program become certified occupational therapists upon successful completion of the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of the examination, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). Most states require licensure prior to practice. Granting of state licensure is usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. See the Wisconsin Department of Regulation & Licensing website for information on licensure in Wisconsin.
