Department News: Effort Underway to Honor Bruno Balke

The Department of Kinesiology is pleased to announce a fundraising campaign to honor the legacy of Dr. Bruno Balke. Balke was a professor emeritus of physiology and kinesiology at UW-Madison. Balke is credited with being the first exercise physiologist to chart the precise relationship among oxygen consumption, exercise and cardiovascular health. At a time when bed rest was the general prescription for heart patients, he was an early advocate of heart-strengthening exercises. His is warmly remembered as a leader and mentor in the field of exercise physiology. Our goal is to rename the Biodynamics Lab at UW-Madison in his honor. Gifts to support the Biodynamics Lab can be made online or by mail.
