UW-Madison Department of Kinesiology - 2010 On the Move - Department News - Centennial Celebration

Department News: Centennial Celebration, March 31-April 2

The year 2011 will mark the 100th anniversary of the Physical Education program at UW-Madison (which later became incorporated into the Department of Physical Education and Dance). The Department of Kinesiology will host a centennial celebration from March 31 through April 2.

The celebration will begin on Thursday evening with a special presentation.

A Friday symposium in the newly renovated Education Building on Bascom Hill will include a series of invited speakers in each research area of the department (including the Montoye/Nagle, Safrit and Brown lectures), selected oral presentations, and poster sessions.

The day will end with a gala dinner in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union, celebrating the department’s history and our alumni’s achievements.

Saturday will begin with a run (or walk) along the beautiful Lake Mendota shoreline to the memorable Picnic Point. The morning programs will focus on current educational and clinical issues in physical activity. The program will end with a cookout lunch with traditional Wisconsin brats and beer.

Please mark your calendar for this exciting reunion. We hope it will bring back fond memories of your years at UW-Madison and we will enjoy meeting with Badgers from all over the country.

You can make plans to attend now by booking your hotel reservations at the Hilton Madison Monona Terrace or Edgewater Hotel. We have a block of 100 rooms reserved specifically for this event.
